Uganda Banded Weave Bowl
Banded Weave Bowl – 5798
Approximately 16″ Across x 3-4″ Tall
For this type of bowl, multiple coils are wrapped with raffia in a complicated weaving style that results in new types of patterns. Bukedo is the local term in Uganda for banana leaf stalks. Along with raffia that comes from palm trees, these materials are renewable, plentiful resources. The mission of this weaving group is to support as many other women as possible through the promotion of their handcrafts.
Bukedo creates a sturdy base that dyed raffia is coiled around to make this strong basket. These baskets are traditionally used for serving food in Uganda. They look great mounted on a wall or propped on a shelf or even sitting on a table.
Although each basket is uniquely handwoven and thus varies slightly, you will receive a basket that looks very close to this photo.
